I tried Vista before it was official. I tried it again after it was released. I even managed to get it up and running on two of our less critical computers (HTPCs) over the last few months...
After SP1, I thought "okay, it might be ready"; and I've really tried to make it work on my main computer. After 3 weeks, I'm ready to throw in the towel again. In fact, I'm taking it off of my HTPCs, too. Yes, Microsoft won several hundred dollars from me; but, they've got me working with Linux again; because, surely, this can't be the future for my desktop.
Did Microsoft invest in Google? If so, there's synergy, because anyone running Vista will need to spend a LOT of time searching for fixes, workarounds, and tweaks. If not, then I'm confused... ironically, using MSN's search rarely seems to give the answers I need to fix most problems that Vista throws my way.
Anwyay, you can stick a fork in me and see that I'm done. I haven't said this since "Windows ME"; but, I'm saying it now: DO NOT INSTALL VISTA UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS WILLING TO HELP YOU.
I consider myself an expert. In the last 15 years, I've written dozens of applications which have had thousands of users, and built at least one hundred computers. I'd like to think that I know what I'm doing, and I absolutely cannot bend this horrible excuse for an Operating System to do my bidding.
Yeah, it's got some neat ideas. And, it's got hyper-hype going for it. Take DirectX-10... the first game to use it (Crysys) was actually exposed as being "dumbed down" for DirectX 9 just to promote 10 (meaning Vista). I'm not sure how much premeditation went into that marketing ploy; but, we all know it was a lie, now, and it's really made me think twice about Microsoft.
I'm already backing my stuff up... when the next SNAFU hits, I'm moving back to XP.
(XP, by the way, still is an incredible OS. The only thing that could possibly kill it would be Microsoft, and they're working feverishly to do just that.)
