I truly hoped that Bush's ouster would bring in a new age of friendliness towards the privacy of citizens; but, our representatives -- many of whom are bought and paid for by RIAA and the MPAA -- are about to put an onerous burden on everyone, and most people wouldn’t even know how to comply with this new law.
I really think this is a Hollywood-sponsored end-run around the 4th amendment.
According to proposed legislation, you’d be required to keep logs from your wireless router for two years.
As is the case with most of the laws which Hollywood wants, it’ll be passed for the sake of “child pornography”. The music and movie industries learned some time ago that they can hide behind a cause that we all agree with, even though the ultimate effect will have little or nothing to do with finding pedophiles.
In the end, it’ll turn almost any citizen with a wireless router into a potential criminal, and probably open your door to summary “search-and-seizure”. If you don’t know the difference between WPA and WEP, you should be afraid of this legislation.
Beyond your own required compliance, the legislation will also force your ISP to keep logs on file for two years… just think about the implications... EVERY thing you (or guests) do online will only be as private as Hollywood wants it to be.
Be afraid… be very, very, afraid.

In that thread, I learned something from “Atlas Shrugged”. There’s a really poignant quote that is as much a warning to us as it is a guide for would-be dictators.
